Conversion of CNT (Carbon Nano Tube) gaseous sock to continuous CNT yarn
Challenge Description:CNTs are seamless cylindrical hollow fibres, comprised of a single sheet of pure graphite having a diameter in nanometers (nm) range, with lengths of few microns (>10). These CNTs are being developed using floating catalyst chemical vapor deposition (FCCVD) with a continuous gas phase CNT output. Conversion of CNT sock to continuous CNT yarn is a challenge.

Fast triggering trigatron (Spark Gap Switch)
Challenge Description:Trigatron is a spark gap switch used for forced triggering of breakdown/flashover between two electrodes separated by a distance. They are typically used in impulse voltage generators and the triggering circuit needs few seconds between two consecutive sparks. For impulse testing of a test object at power frequency (50 Hz), conventional trigatrons do not meet the requirements of high pulse rate.Solution sought
Development of a fast triggering trigatron circuit which can generate the same pulse voltage peak of 15-20kV at 50 Hz frequency (20ms every pulse)
The circuit should have inbuilt isolation to prevent damage to triggering circuit during the breakdown
The trigatron should be designed for 100kV standard sphere gap arrangement, suitable for an energy rating of 10 kJ

Development of noise attenuating materials with heat dissipation capabilities
Challenge Description:In certain products like transformers, capacitor banks, etc. where acoustic materials are in contact with the machine surfaces to reduce structural vibration/noise with an additional requirement of proper heat dissipation.
Development of materials suitable for noise attenuation along with heat dissipation capabilities would enable dual advantage of heat as well as noise handling.

Development of Self-Healing High Voltage Electrical Insulation Materials
Challenge Description:Electrical treeing can be the precursor to catastrophic failure for electrical insulation materials and hence significantly shorten the service life of any electrical equipment.
Considering that damage inside the insulating material, is difficult to detect & thereby to repair, the ability to ‘self-heal’ of the identified material as a direct response to electrical degradation is very promising, especially in challenging environments
The approach should develop self-healing electrical insulation materials (thermosetting type) in which Microcapsules filled with a monomer (healing agent) are added to the insulation materials (say, epoxy) prior to casting.
BHEL expert shall provide sharing required inputs and will be associated during the project execution and review process.
